As is tradition for most AAA games these days, Mafia 3 has arrived to the PC with a whole slue of technical problems. The graphics are blurry, the field of view is needlessly restricted, enemy AI is apparently unbelievably dumb, and most surprisingly for me, the framerate was locked to 30 FPS on launch! While most of these issues still remain, the developers have just recently posted a patch that adds support for both 60 and unlimited frames-per-second options on the PC. Mafia 3 still won't look like much, but at the very least you'll be able to enjoy the blurry graphics in smooth 60 FPS (and above). Since there aren't any patch notes, here's the brief message the developers posted alongside this update:

To select your framerate, just head to the display menu in-game. Just make sure to tailor the framerate settings to the power of your machine. Note: this patch resets keyboard mapping to default, so any changes you made to the controls previously will need to be customized after installing the patch.

Unfortunately, from what I've read on the Mafia 3 subreddit, this patch has done very little to help the framerate. Sure, you can set your FPS to unlimited, but the numerous performance issues will quickly erode that number all the way down to ~30 FPS. I'm starting to see why the developers have chosen to lock the PC version to 30 FPS on launch - nobody can run Mafia 3 on anything higher!

All of this is a real shame since many people are telling me Mafia 3 is quite fun as a game, but there are so many technical problems its almost impossible to enjoy it. The developers do seem to be dedicated, however, so who knows. maybe there's a ray of hope awaiting Mafia 3 in the future.
